On March 8th, Kayley Bishop released “Hold On, Honey.” It is an inspirational song that Bishop hopes will touch the lives of others. As someone who has been in the audience to experience her singing it live, it gave me chills. Undiscovered Nashville has been a fan of Bishop for quite some time now. But if you are a new reader to our page, we first introduced Kayley Bishop as a storyteller with a soulful voice in August 2022. After attending the single release show at 3rd & Lindsley, I had to take a moment to discuss the song and single release show.
Behind the Music: “Hold On, Honey”
When I hear a song that is so moving, I immediately want to know what inspired the songwriter. Bishop said, “I wrote this song in thirty minutes at Songhouse while sitting outside on the stoop. As I was writing, it felt like heaven was talking to me. I felt like God allowed me to be ministered to through writing a song to my younger self. It has been a gift. I call this my anthem. It’s an anthem to my younger self, a pre-divorce, pre-heartbreaking experience that shaped who I am now.”
The lyrics are reassuring to someone going through it right now, and it will get better if you give it time. These lyrics were especially powerful, as Bishop sings, “You can’t grow without the suffering, you can’t be purified without the heat, so hold on, honey.” Through struggles in your life, there is an opportunity to learn and grow stronger if you are honest with yourself. As someone who has also experienced divorce and betrayal from someone I loved, I can attest to the lessons learned from heartbreak and struggle. I have no doubt “Hold On, Honey” will touch others as much as it did myself.

The Single Release Show: A Review
I have seen many shows over the past five years, and several of those performances included Kayley Bishop. However, Kayley’s show at 3rd & Lindsley is one of the best performances I have seen. Bishop mesmerizes you with her soulful voice from the first song to the last. Bishop’s range allows her to take you to many places during a performance. I often closed my eyes and listened to the beauty of her voice and the melodies of her songs. As Kayley played many of the songs on her upcoming album, I had chills so many times. So, I cannot contain my excitement for Bishop’s album.
This show was special to Bishop. She said, “I have wanted to play 3rd & Lindsley for a long time. While I played there as part of a Backstage Nashville show, I wanted to play a headlining one. I thought about waiting for the album release, but it ended up now. They say when one door closes, another one opens, and it felt like I was getting a lot of closed doors when I was looking for a venue. It seemed like everything fell into place. Everything about the sound at 3rd & Lindsley is amazing.” If you missed the show, make it a priority to see Bishop perform if you can.
Kayley Bishop Uses Her Song to Shine a Light on Others
Outside of the song and release show, Bishop’s new song has helped shine a light on Recovery Church, where she recorded the music video. Several churches once again denied Bishop when she was looking for a location to shoot the choir scene in her video. But once again, it worked out as it should. Bishop said, “there are people from Recovery Church in the video, and I am so happy they are a part of this. I am also thrilled I can shed light on an organization that is discipling people coming out of addiction.”
Kayley Bishop is grateful for her gifts but is so humble. She said, “I am not here to bring glory to myself; otherwise, I am doing it wrong. The gift of music is, therefore, the responsibility of music. If I am not using my gift to shine a light on others, then I am doing it completely wrong.
